SouthBridge Emergency Medical Service is a charitable, non-profit 501(c)3 community
oriented ambulance service established in 1971. Before present day SouthBridge,
emergency medical care was provided by South Hills Ambulance and Rescue System.
What Happened to South Hills Ambulance?
New legislation of ambulance regulations in 1989 led to many changes for South Hills
Ambulance. The first step was to ensure 24 hour a day, seven day a week Advanced Life
Support ambulance coverage. Equipment was updated and the latest technology put in
place. The service began to examine the needs of the community and developed a system
around those needs. After this reevaluation of the communities’ needs and the emergence
of a new standard of care, South Hills Ambulance Service changed its name to
SouthBridge Emergency Medical Service in an effort to more accurately depict the
communities that it serves.
Currently, SouthBridge serves Bridgeville Borough, Cecil Township, and South Fayette
Township, in addition to providing mutual aid services to several surrounding
communities and cities in Allegheny and Washington Counties. With strategically placed
units throughout our districts, SouthBridge EMTs and Paramedics respond to thousands
of calls for assistance each year. SouthBridge continues to examine its role within the
community and strives to provide the best possible care to the residents it serves. Our goal
is to provide patients with the best care we can in comparison to the best services in the
country. The service and care we provide can mean the difference between life and death.
With this in mind, SouthBridge EMS takes pride in our aggressive approach to emergency
medical care
